About David Julian Price
He’s a speaking coach in Perth, but the first thing you notice about David is that he isn’t tall. That’s worked in his favour. He had to learn how to look tall in the eyes of others — in how he spoke, and in his executive presence.
He cracked it through trial and error, and now he helps others walk tall whenever they speak, lead, or sit in a meeting. Because executive presence isn’t only about how you use your voice. It’s knowing when to stay quiet, how to project confidence, and how to lift the people around you.
David works with leaders and their teams to own the room when they speak and chair a meeting. He shows them how to cut their meetings in half and double the results.
Since 1986 he’s worked with large corporates including Qantas, with not-for-profits, and with small businesses the world over — from the USA to Dubai, and from One Arm Point to Barcaldine.
A vexillologist, he flies a different flag every day from his collection of 240. Some are country flags, some pure novelty. And as a self-confessed aviation tragic, he keeps scale models of every aircraft he’s flown on.
An observation from Denise Price, David’s wife…
You know you’ve found your career niche when you enjoy doing the things most people avoid. The “thrill” of public speaking. The joy of “detailed meeting procedures.” Riveting stuff, eh?
David embraced public speaking so completely that he studied it to the nth degree. He joined his Rostrum club in 1980 purely for the social side of things — and it quietly changed the whole direction of his working life. He spoke at every chance he got, then he listened, learned, observed, and road-tested. He became a coach, then a coaches’ coach, then ran courses for the corporate world, and eventually stood on platforms in front of audiences of 2,000-plus.
(On a side note… I used to be a rather shy young thing. Then I joined Rostrum, met David Julian Price, and look what happened. We’ve been together 30-plus years.)
He genuinely loves coaching people to speak with confidence — anytime, anywhere. Watching thousands of lives change for the better is what keeps him at it. And his style? Strategic and direct. No dilly-dallying, no fluff. He’ll get you the results you need, and fast.
Now, about David and meetings.
Enough about the speaking. Let’s talk about his love of meeting procedure. Or don’t, as I usually choose. Seriously — what’s to love about meeting procedure? For me, not much. For my husband, that’s a whole different story.
He loves it so much he’s written four books on the subject. They call him the Meetings Man. And yes — his eyes actually light up when he talks about it. (I’m not exaggerating. They really do.)
It’s not the nuts and bolts he loves. It’s what the rules let you achieve — knowing when and how to use them so people actually enjoy turning up. I’ve watched him chair contentious meetings of over 100 people, with the room split and tempers high. Thirty-five-plus years of experience, calm hands on the agenda, and somehow he smooths the whole thing to purr-fec-tion. I’ve seen a previously furious attendee shake his hand afterwards and thank him.
Because process matters, and it has to be done right.
Through the Meeting Mastery Knowledge Base, anyone, anywhere in the world can ask David a question about any aspect of meetings and get an answer. Past answers live in the vault (names and places changed).
If your meetings need help — in any shape or form — get in touch. He’d love to show you how better meetings make your working life less stressful. And you’ll make his eyes light up.
Denise Rose Price, The Talent Behind the Talent
If there’s one thread running through everything David does, it’s community.
He connects people — by teaching them to communicate better, and by leading from the front.
These are skills that travel with you everywhere. At home, at work, in your local community, in a charity or a public speaking group like Rostrum, or a business network like PSA, District 32 or BNI.
David will help you speak more clearly, read the room when you network, chair meetings people actually enjoy, and carry leadership skills into every corner of your day.
Because when you can stand up and be heard, everyone around you stands a little taller too.
David Julian Price is The Flag Man (Vexillologist)
David’s love of flags has become its own small source of fellowship. With over 240 to choose from, the daily hoisting is quite the conversation starter in the neighbourhood. You can follow each day’s flag on his Facebook page, Today’s Flag.
So what place do they hold in his life?
Quite a lot, actually. On a practical level, they each have their own spot in the filing-cabinet drawers, waiting their turn at the flagpole. And — much like meeting procedures — they’re systematically organised:
The joy isn’t only David’s. He realised others were enjoying the ritual when thank-you cards started appearing in the letterbox. Families were taking a detour just to drive past and see what was flying that day. For the local kids it became a mini-project — they’d talk about each flag, work out why it had been chosen, and pick up a little history and geography along the way.
A flagpole is a simple thing. But David’s has quietly stitched together a connection between him and the neighbourhood — both the one down the street and the one online — that we all share.
