Impartial facilitator · Perth, Western Australia

Impartial facilitation in Perth. Helping groups think better together.

An independent facilitator designs and guides your workshop, so everyone in the room, including the leader, can focus on the conversation instead of managing it. David also runs team communication workshops and mastermind groups, and helps organisations with meeting effectiveness.

“I don’t simply facilitate discussions. I watch the thinking. I watch the relationships. I watch the energy.”

One role. One focus.

So who is responsible for the conversation itself?

When you bring your brightest people together to solve a problem, shape a strategy or make a big decision, everyone has a role to play.

The CEO bringsLeadership
The Chair bringsGovernance
The executive team bringsExperience
The experts bringKnowledge
The facilitator looks afterThe conversation

One of the biggest mistakes organisations make is asking the CEO, Chair or another senior leader to run an important workshop. They’re already carrying enough. They have opinions, relationships and history. They should be free to contribute fully. An external facilitator has one responsibility: helping your team reach the best possible outcome.

Independence changes the conversation

I bring something your own people can’t: perspective

No
organisational history
No
hidden agenda
No
preferred outcome
No
internal politics
No
alliances
No
axe to grind

That independence lets me ask the questions others avoid, challenge assumptions respectfully and make sure every idea is judged on its merits. People speak more openly when the person guiding the discussion has no stake in the outcome. That changes the quality of the conversation.

Every organisation already has the answers

The expertise is already in the room. My job is to unlock it.

A common misconception is that the facilitator arrives with the answers. I don’t. I ask the questions people haven’t thought to ask, notice the patterns others miss, and help people connect ideas and build on each other’s thinking.

The breakthrough rarely comes from one brilliant idea. It comes when the conversation finally goes where it needed to go.

Seeing what others can’t

I facilitate like a hawk

A hawk soars high enough to see the whole landscape, yet stays ready to focus instantly on the smallest movement below. One moment we’re discussing long-term direction. The next, we pause on a single comment that reveals a hidden concern or opportunity. Great strategy depends on seeing the forest without missing the trees.

Sometimes the greatest value I add isn’t saying something. It’s noticing something, then asking the question that helps the group see it too.

Throughout every workshop I’m watching

  • The quality of the discussion
  • Whether everyone is participating
  • The energy in the room
  • Emerging themes and patterns
  • Hidden opportunities
  • Assumptions that deserve a challenge
  • Conversations that need to go deeper
  • Discussion drifting from the objective

Managing more than the agenda

Good facilitators manage the agenda. Great facilitators manage the energy.

Every group has its personalities. My role is to make sure every voice is heard, no one dominates, and the conversation stays productive, respectful and focused.

Someone who always speaks first
Someone who rarely speaks unless invited
Someone whose enthusiasm takes the discussion off course
Someone quietly holding the insight the group needs

Every room has energy too. Enthusiastic, cautious, tired, resistant. When the energy changes, the quality of thinking changes. So I know when to:

Challenge
Pause
Ask a different question
Inject humour
Change the pace
Move into smaller groups
Let silence do its work

Strategic planning facilitator

A strategic planning workshop should do more than produce a document

It should create clarity. Challenge assumptions. Encourage the honest conversations people haven’t been having. Most importantly, it should leave everyone moving in the same direction.

No two organisations face the same challenges, so every workshop is designed around your people and your objectives. It might be a focused half day, a full day or a series of sessions.

The outcome is never just another strategic plan. It’s a leadership team that knows where it’s going and is committed to getting there together.

Workshops may explore

Vision and future direction
Strategic priorities
Organisational values
Emerging opportunities
Risks and challenges
Stakeholder expectations

Why organisations choose David Price

Clients value more than my facilitation skills

They value my ability to read the room, recognise patterns, connect ideas and ask the question that shifts the conversation. To balance participation with progress. To encourage respectful debate without letting conflict become personal.

My background in leadership, governance, communication and meeting effectiveness lets me see the strategic picture and the detail others overlook. That often uncovers opportunities that were hiding in plain sight.

Impartial facilitator FAQs

Absolutely. I facilitate for boards, executive leadership teams, local government councils, state government agencies, not-for-profits, professional associations and business owners.

I don’t simply manage the agenda. I watch the thinking, the relationships and the energy. By moving between the big picture and the fine detail, I help groups have conversations they wouldn’t have had on their own.

Every important conversation deserves the right guide

The quality of your decisions is directly proportional to the quality of your conversations.

If your next strategy day, executive retreat, planning workshop or problem-solving session really matters, I’d be delighted to help. Together we’ll create more than a plan. We’ll create clarity, alignment and momentum.
