I received this question from Alan in Australia:
What is the correct procedure, when the secretary resigns early in the term?
If the Secretary (or any other office holder) resigns early, then most constitutions allow for the president or the committee to appoint another until the next AGM.
If the president does it, it should always be with the approval of the committee. You do not need to go back to the membership unless the constitution says you must but that is rare in my experience.
