In this conversation, Simon Pritchard puts his questions about public speaking to David Julian Price, a Perth presentation skills coach with 40+ years’ experience. If you’re technically minded, nervous about speaking or simply want to get better at it, these are the questions you’re probably asking too.

Why engineers and technical people ask different questions
Technical people are trained to be precise, thorough and right. Those are strengths. But in front of an audience they can work against you. You know so much that it’s hard to choose what to leave out, and the detail that matters to you can bury the point that matters to them.
The fix isn’t to dumb things down. It’s to lead with the point, back it with the evidence and give your listeners one picture they can take away.
